From Boats of the Norfolk Broads
The Norfolk wherries used to be the main form of commercial transport throughout Broadland, but fell into disuse with the advent of the faster railways and road transport. Today the Norfolk wherry fleet is only a shadow of its former glory, with only seven running wherries, two are traditional trading wherries, whilst the others are either passenger wherries or wherry-yachts.
The Norfolk Wherry Trust is the site to visit to find out more about these craft. I don't as yet have a complete selection of photos, so all the wherries are not yet listed here.
